Omega Watch History
Today, seven out of ten people throughout the world are familiar with the OMEGA watch brand - a truly amazing rate of awareness to which few other watch brands can lay claim. The reason behind this success is said to be the reliably fine quality of every OMEGA watch. From its modest beginnings in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848 the assembly workshop created by 23-year-old Louis Brandt gradually gained renown. Louis Brandt assembled key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen. After Louis Brandt's death in 1879, his two sons Louis-Paul and Cesar took over control of the business.
Louis-Paul and César Brandt both died in 1903, leaving one of Switzerland's largest watch companies - with 240,000 watches produced annually and employing 800 people - in the hands of four young people, the oldest of whom was Paul-Emile Brandt. The economic difficulties brought on by the First World War would lead him to work actively from 1925 toward the union of OMEGA and Tissot then to their merger in 1930 within the group SSIH. By the seventies, SSIH had become Switzerland's no 1 producer of finished watches and no 3 in the world. The severe monetary crisis and recession of 1975 to 1980, SSIH was bailed out by the banks in 1981. In 1985 the holding company was taken over by a group of private investors. Immediately renamed SMH, Societe suisse de microelectronique et d'horlogerie, the new group achieved rapid growth and success to become today's top watch producer in the world. Named Swatch Group in 1998, it now includes Blancpain and Breguet. Dynamic and flourishing, OMEGA remains one of its most prestigious flagship brands.
1st March 1965 - OMEGA's Speedmaster chronograph was \"flight-qualified by NASA for all manned space missions\" as the only watch to have withstood all of the U.S. space agency's severe tests. On 21 July 1969 - 02:56 GMT, the Speedmaster records man's first steps on the Moon's surface. The Speedmaster became the first watch (and the only watch since) to be worn on the Moon. With this unique accomplishment came a unique nickname: the Moon Watch. April 1970 - the OMEGA Speedmaster rescued the Apollo 13 mission from a potential disaster, earning OMEGA the \"Snoopy Award\".
1948 saw the advent of the Seamaster, Seamaster 300 in 1957, In 1981, the newly launched Seamaster 120 set a new world free dive record at a depth of 101 metres. The Seamaster is also famous for being the watch of choice for James Bond.

- Classic 1958 Omega with cal. 267, one of the last 3 revisions of Omega's famous 30mm calibre. This watch has stainless English made 'Denisteel' case made by Dennison, (ref. 1236) in superb condition, completely refurbed with no loss of detail through overpolishing on the sharp edges, and satinised correctly. Silver dial, unmarked, with raised silver numerals and batons. The hands are in excellent shape. Original 50s hermetic crown present. The movement is calibre 267, manually wound 15J, very clean, recently serviced and running beautifully. Absolute top notch 50s Omega. Comes with our Omega Certificate of Authenticity. |

- Omega Seamaster Cosmic 2000 circa 1973 case ref. 166.0130. Heavy stainless steel case in excellent condition. Mint silver dial. Seamaster logo to rear. The movement is housed in a clever waterproof design (originally 50m rated but no longer guaranteed for waterproofing by us) and pushes out through the bezel of the watch. Mineral Glass with no marks. The movement (cal. 1012) has been removed serviced photographed and reinstalled, saving the new owner the bother as it's not easy and certainly not for amateurs. A real collectors piece in amazing condition and one of the rare 1970s Omega Seamasters. |

- Omega De Ville Quartz c.1976 cal. 1325 with an incredible 15 jewels in the movement (unheard of for a quartz watch). Case ref. 192.0027. The case is in excellent order, clip on back , blue dial with no ageing. Pushing the crown advances the minutes and pulling the crown and twisting advances the hours and date. Omega applied as much engineering to the early quartz models as they did to their mechanical pieces. In their time truly state of the art and made at a time when most people were still enjoying the novelty of LED watches. |

- One of my favourite of all the Seamasters, the combination of Seamaster function and De Ville Form, a diver with a sharp suit. Omega Seamaster De Ville 14K gold capped cal. 601 circa 1966. Omega case ref. CD 135.0020. The Unishell case is in superb condition showing very little wear and hasn't been molested by over polishing. The gold capped is in 14K Rose gold again in superb order. Beautiful crisp Seamaster logo to rear. The dial has been restored by the best UK's top dial restorer and the only one we will trust with such work. It's therefore pristine. The movement is calibre 601. dating to 1966 fully serviced by our watchmaker (March 2010).

- An Omega Gents manual wind watch dating from the 1944. The stainless steel Omega signed screw back case is in excellent condition. The dial with auxiliary seconds dial at 6 o'clock position has some spotting but completely original. Circa WWII Omegas are exceptionally collectable and this watch has a hidden twist. Removing the back and inner dust cover reveals a rectangular form movement cal. R 17.5mm. This practice of using rectangular movements in circular cases has been well documented notably in 'Omega Designs' by Kreuzer. The reasons for doing so are less clear but given the austerity of the war years and simplicity of design it may well have been a cunning way to utilise existing stock of form factor movements normally seen in decorative rectangular cased watches of earlier years. - A very rare opportunity to obtain a truly stunning 18ct solid gold Omega Constellation Automatic Chronometer watch dating August 1977 complete with original authenticating papers and luxury contemporary Omega wooden box. The square dial is also solid gold in mint original order. The crown is Omega signed as is the clear and polished glass. The back of the watch shows the Constellation emblem again engraved in the solid gold. It is presented on the original Omega signed gold bracelet to fit a max wrist size of 7.5". This watch comes complete with wooden Omega presentation box and outer Omega white cardboard box. It also has the original 1977 guarantee booklet showing original dealer details and retailer and the 'Officially Certified Chronometer' booklet. Also included are an additional dealer receipt from prestigious UK Omega dealer. The watch was also serviced by Swiss Time Services in 06/12/2006 with a two year guarantee (paperwork included). Measures 36x38mm including lugs and crown. The watch shows no evidence of wear at all bar the smallest handling marks over the years. Its appearance is of a new piece. The bracelet is tight, as new, with no stretch whatsoever. Weight of the watch is approx 140g.

- A beautiful Seamaster for the gentleman who likes dependable accuracy and classic Omega styling. The watch is in exceptional condition and circa 20 years old. Calibre 1342 which is the one with independent hour and minutes changing and push button in the center of the crown. Has a full bracelet and will fit up to a 7.5 inch wrist. Comes in its original box and 1342 booklet , box is a bit faded internally. The Omega is 35.5mm diameter and apart from the Omega clasp which I have rebrushed, the watch is in its original unbuffed finish. Crystal and steel work are really excellent. ST168.005 cal. 564 dating c.1967 The stainless steel case with double angled batwing lugs is in very fine order, no restoration work, beautiful sharp original edges. No dings or scratches just the lightest wear. The caseback has it's original highly polished finish, a few light marks with crisp plantetarium logo showing no wear at all. - Increasingly rare, an Omega Seamaster Bumper Automatic cal. 342 circa 1952, in brilliant condition for year. Heavy 80micron gold plated case (14K gold capped), in generally excellent order, just some minor wear through to the top and bottom of the bezel on the sharp edges only. This is the rare large diameter 36mm, Omega ref. 2494-5. Very few of these were made compared to the more familiar 34mm size case. Original gold capped 50s crown is present so often lost, and impossible to replace. The two tone dial is exceptional, gold batons, dagger hands (which we've relumed). It's aged perfectly with just gentle spotting to show for it's 58years of age. Brand new genuine Omega crystal fitted. The movement is cal. 342 bumper auto just been serviced (April 2010) and is running beautifully, even the Omega copper plating is remarkably fresh and bright. A high quality brown leather strap with white stitching and Omega signed buckle complete the picture.

- A rare opportunity to acquire a 1970s Omega Constellation case ref. 368.847 complete with it's original Omega paperwork (instructions and signed warranty card) dated 25-1-1975. Stainless steel case in excellent condition having been refurbished. The integral bracelet is in good shape. It is has also received a refurb although some of the deeper marks remain and has some minor dents to a couple of the links (Will fit max wrist size of 20cms.) The original Omega crystal is retained and is polished and unblemished. Original silver dial in excellent order bar a few minor marks. The movement is calibre 1002 which has been checked, recently serviced and a new stem fitted. |

 | Omega Geneve Dynamic cal.752 c.1970
- The very desisrable Omega Geneve Dynamic case ref 166.079 dating from 1970 and possibly the nicest example we have listed. The achillies heel of the early Dynamics were their brightly painted dials which often deteriorate badly over a 40 year period. Many end up refinished with varying degrees of workmanship and a few examples seem to survive. This is one such model with a completely original electric blue/ silver two tone dial. There is the slightest hint of flaking at the very edge of the dial but for a forty year old watch we shall forgive it. Amazing stainless steel case still with it's original radial lines etched into the bezel so often lost through over polishing. Excellent condition original 1153/1139 bracelet in great shape, lightly refinished to look splended. A clean crystal, original crown complete the picture. The movement is calibre 752 automatic with push/pull date change serial 32,5**,*** dating to 1970. It's in superb order, pink Omega plating intact and just serviced. Case size 41mm x 36mm. Stunning watch.

- A rare Omega Deville Automatic Gents watch case ref. 156.0002 dating c.1973 with stunning retro widescreen TV shaped case. The stainless steel rectangular case is in excellent condition with deep set machined Omega Deville logo on the back. It has the original Omega signed crown and glass which has a tiny mark between the 4 and 5 o'clock marker. The Omega signed attractive black dial is also in excellent condition with date function at 6 o'clock position. It has a cal.684 Automatic movement which has just been serviced and is running well, keeping excellent time. - Very popular amongst collectors and always sell very quickly. We've been lucky enough to obtain yet another Omega Chronostop in excellent condition case ref. 145.009. Superb original grey dial. The case is in excellent shape with no dents or dings, clean crystal and signed crown. The movement is cal. 865 serial no. 25,871,*** dating 1967 and has just been serviced, the original Omega 'pink' copper plating intact. The unique single chrono function works perfectly and zips back to 12. Press once to start, then again and hold to read the elapsed seconds. Releasing the button returns the stopwtch hand to zero. This one is also fitted with a genuine Omega strap and buckle with some wear but very serviceable. We also have a couple of high quality strap upgrades available with this watch at extra cost, please ask. Diameter 33mm. |

- This is an Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronometer Full size, Omega model ref. 2254.5000. Dated 09-10-02, this watch is is superb original condition with only a few minor scratches to the case and bracelet, and a couple of tiny marks on the bezel, consistent with light occasional wear. This is the black dial model with black bezel with enlarged numerals, originally marketed by Omega as 'Pierce Brosnan's Choice' differentiating it from the more common Blued dialled 'Bond Watch'. An extremely attractive watch this is the Omega version of the Rolex Submariner and being a full on diving watch if so desired. (Please not we cannot guarantee water resistance as this watch is out of Omega warranty). It has been issued by an official Omega dealer, Wafi Omega Boutique in Dubai and comes with sumptuous black leather box with cream felt lining, operating instructions, correctly stamped warranty card, dealer booklets, spare bracelet links and chronometer certificate. The current equivalent model retails at £1800. Movement is a Omega cal.1120 automatically wound mechanical chronometer rated, inspected and timed by ourselves and keeping time within 10 seconds a day on our timer as per original spec. - A rare Omega bumper calibre 30.10RA. This was the first Automatic calibre Omega produced in 1942, famous for it's 'hammer' or bumper rotor which wound the mainspring by the centre mounted weight bumping on the buffer springs. It went through a couple of revisions and later became the more commonly known cal. 330. As such the pre-'standardised' calibres are very sought after amongst collectors. The large diameter case (36mm) is also unusual not only for its huge size for the period but it's 4 piece design consisting of centre chassis and lugs, bezel, rear cover and rear clip on bezel. It's in wonderful condition with no major dents or scratches, signed Omega ref. 2374. The dial is ageing wonderful, slightly creamy silver with railtrack on the inside edge of the numerals. Plain crown which we believe to be correct and original for this period and polished crystal. The movement is cal. 30.10RA, s/n 98*,*** dating circa 1943, some plating loss to the hammer rotor but mechanically sound, winding the mainspring perfectly (although never to modern half rotor levels of efficiency), running well and keeping excellent time. Black dial, with date function and black bezel and bezel. The back of the watch has the fantastic embossed Seamaster planet Ocean logo. Stainless steel bracelet, complete with all extra links should they be needed. This watch comes complete with original red Omega cushioned box and outer white cardboard box, Omega warranty card (signed, dated July 05), Omega book, chrono cert, pictogram card etc and original hang tags. The watch can only be described as mint, with wear to the clasp only visible under magnification and being worn less than a handful of times by its previous owner. - Another stunning automatic watch from Omega. A 1958 Omega Auto with fancy gold filled case. The case with 'fancy tear shaped' lugs is in excellent condition, and is 10Kt gold filled with no wear through of the finish. This watch was produced for the American retail market shown by the highly styled lugs which are typical of the late fifties. Similar aged Omega's from Europe were far more conservatively styled at this time. The screw back is stainless steel signed inside Omega and then by Ross who was likely the amercian case maker comissioned by Omega. The attractive dial is original and hence has some slight spotting but consistent with its age. It has a cal.500, 17J automatic movement that runs well and keeps good time. Diameter is 34mm. An interesting watch for Omega collectors. |

- This is a rare opportunity to obtain a early 70's Omega Constellation Automatic Gent's watch with the square case and integral stainless bracelet. The case and cystal are in excellent condition with the Omega Constellation logo still sharply defined on the back, The black dial is in superb original condition as is the Omega signed crown. It has the original Omega integral stainless steel bracelet with Omega signed clasp which shows some stretch and minor distortion to some of the links through wear over many years but still remains in very serviceable condition. The case and bracelet have been repolished and satinised and the overall condition is good. The bracelet will fit a wrist size up to 6.5inches although this can be extended with the use of two non standard links which fit the bracelet well. The chronometer rated automatic movement runs extremely well and keeps excellent time. Measurements are 39mm (excluding crown) x 33mm. This is not a mint example due to wear to the bracelet but has been priced accordingly. The dial and condition of the movement is excellent. |
